WASHINGTON, D.C. — The White House struck back Monday against what it called a “despicable” interview aired by CNN with a notorious Mexican cartel member, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defending President Trump’s unwavering commitment to restoring “law and order” across America.
In her first White House briefing since taking the role, Leavitt confirmed that the administration is moving forward on a bold plan to reopen the infamous Alcatraz prison — a symbol of America’s tough-on-crime stance — as part of President Trump’s larger agenda to crack down on criminals, repeat offenders, and illegal immigrants who threaten national security.
“President Trump is leaving no stone unturned to restore law and order in this country,” Leavitt declared. “This is about enforcing our laws to the fullest extent, and we are serious about prosecuting those who repeatedly break the law, regardless of their citizenship.”
Leavitt slammed CNN for giving a platform to a member of a Mexican drug cartel, a group the U.S. government has designated as a foreign terrorist organization responsible for killing American citizens.
“It was a softball interview that gave airtime to a violent foreign terrorist organization,” she said bluntly. “I found it absolutely despicable.”
Her remarks come amid growing frustration from the White House over what it sees as mainstream media’s unwillingness to report honestly on crime and immigration issues.
Leavitt pointed out that the White House has taken an unprecedented approach to communicating directly with the American people, bypassing traditional media filters. This includes putting up posters of violent criminals and illegal alien offenders on display at the White House lawn — a move designed to force attention on the crimes mainstream outlets often ignore.
“It’s sad we have to put these mugshots right on the front lawn for the media to even cover these stories,” Leavitt said. “But since they won’t, we’re making sure the American public sees the truth.”
She also highlighted the administration’s recent meeting with “Angel Mothers,” women who have lost children at the hands of illegal alien criminals — stories she says Democrats have long ignored.
“President Trump is the first to listen to these grieving families and act on their behalf,” Leavitt said, emphasizing ongoing efforts to deport illegal criminals and encourage self-deportation to protect American communities.
On trade and the economy, Leavitt confirmed the administration’s progress in negotiations with 17 countries and promised a resurgence in American jobs, including new tariffs aimed at revitalizing Hollywood.
“We are making Hollywood great again,” she said with a smile. “It’s just one part of President Trump’s comprehensive plan to make America boom again and bring jobs back home.”
With a confident tone, Karoline Leavitt wrapped up the briefing by reinforcing the Trump administration’s commitment to law enforcement, economic prosperity, and direct communication with the American people — a clear contrast to what they describe as the “legacy media’s” failures.
