The rhinoceros iguana is a species of lizard native to the Caribbean Island of Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic). This species is named after the bone growing on its snout that resembles a rhinoceros horn. This iguana has a heavy body and ranges in color from gray to olive green.
Males have larger horns than females. These unique iguanas live mainly in exposed bushes, rocks, and dense groups of shrubs. They spend most of their active time during the day climbing rock crevices and digging burrows. Although they look scary, they are harmless herbivores and their diet consists of fruits, leaves and flowers.
