Liesl Wilhardt is a dedicated animal rescuer and founder of Luvable Dog Rescue in Oregon.Liesl has always had a deep passion for animal rescue , and opened her rescue in hopes of saving as many furry lives as possible.
It’s no wonder a loving rescuer like her took on the challenge of bringing home puppies like Picasso and Luma.Picasso was given to the shelter as a puppy , along with one of his siblings, when his breeder had difficulty finding a good home for each of them.Picasso has become a very helpful dog for other people!h-a-n-h
The two puppies were extremely close, but Picasso stood out from his brother. Picasso was born with a facial deformity that led him to resemble a famous painting by the Spanish artist. His snout appears to be “crooked ,” which gives him a different look that some people just didn’t understand. It is not easy to make others see the relevance hidden behind a different beauty and at first, poor Picasso did not have much luck with this.
Look at Picasso, a dog with a gesture that will be difficult to forgetShortly after their arrival, Picasso and his brother were already on the shelter’s euthanasia list . Just as they were about to run out of time, Liesl entered the compound and took the pair to her Luvable Dog Rescue.h-a-n-h
While finally being welcomed into a loving home, Picasso’s brother suddenly collapsed on a hike due to a brain aneurysm . With the sudden loss of his brother, Picasso had to rely on Liesl, his new adoptive mother.Despite her limitations, Luma is an extremely happy dog.
Under Liesl’s care, Picasso has become the most attentive, sensitive and adorable dog you can imagine. He Embraces his differences and uses them to help others!Picasso now works as a therapy dog for disabled children, and also to support other dogs who have a special condition.
However, Liesl’s work would not end with the adoption of this very special dog. Liesl brought Luma into her life when he was just a little puppy.h-a-n-h
Luma had severe deformities in all four limbs, causing her to move like a small sea turtle . The original plan was to bring Luma to the rescue in hopes of putting her through physical therapy to help her walk. After taking x-rays, they learned that their deformities were much more severe than they thought.h-a-n-h
X-rays showed that his shoulders, elbows and wrists were all deformed. No physical therapy would make Luma walk. But no matter her diagnosis, Liesl wasn’t going to give up.h-a-n-h
The rescue tried several wheelchairs in an effort to get Luma moving. After trying again and again, they finally discovered that the dog was happier getting around on her own.h-a-n-h
She really loves moving on her belly, and has no problem doing it!These two pups truly find joy in each other’s presence and in the arms of their incredible rescuer. Both puppies are a testament that we should make the most of all the opportunities life gives us.
