The bond between a mother and her child is one of the most beautiful things in life . It doesn’t matter if they are connected by genetics or by choice, what matters is the pure and unconditional love that exists between them.

Everly, an incredibly sweet and friendly pit bull, experienced the magic of maternal love after  a little  orphaned squirrel  chose him to be her new “mom . ” Everly has always been a loving and affectionate dog, which is quite natural considering his breed.

Everly was very curious about this unique little orphan squirrel.

Pit bulls have unfairly developed a reputation for being mean and aggressive,  but the breed is naturally sweet and nurturing . In the 19th century, pit bulls were often called “nanny dogs” because they were known to be loving, loyal, and excellent with children.

Everly has inherited all those loyal, loving, nurturing qualities of the pit bull and  has always been eager to make friends with other animals .

So when a little baby squirrel took an interest in him, Everly’s mom, Morgan Joy Groves,  wasn’t too surprised when her dog returned all the attention .h-a-n-h

Everly and her mother, Morgan, were walking when they noticed the little squirrel who seemed to be alone . The little one was just a baby, and perhaps he sensed that Everly would be a great mother, because he immediately found himself curiously drawn to the sweet dog.Everly’s warmth gives this little girl security

The little squirrel followed Everly, and eventually ended up following her and Morgan to her own house . There, Everly laid down to rest from his long walk, which encouraged the little squirrel to get even closer to the dog.

The little visitor snuggled up on top of Everly  and together, the two enjoyed a nice, tender nap. After this, the pit bull decided that he would take care of the little baby.h-a-n-h

Everly became the squirrel’s adoptive “mother,” and from this moment on,  these unique friends began to enjoy many naps and cuddles together .h-a-n-h

However,  Morgan realized that the baby squirrel needed more attention than she and Everly could offer  if she was to grow up to be healthy and able to take care of herself.

This meant that after a while,  Morgan and Everly handed the baby squirrel over to a wildlife center  where he could get the best care.Everly loves her little foster son, but  living at the wildlife center, he will grow up with two other squirrels  and eventually return to the wild when he is ready.The connection between Morgan’s dog and his defenseless little friend was immediate.h-a-n-h

Sometimes  being a good mother means making sure your child has the best chance at a good life,  even if that means giving them up.

The little squirrel will surely always remember his kind foster mother with love and gratitude , and will always appreciate the love and comfort she offered him when he needed it most. Even though they are no longer together, Morgan created this beautiful  Instagram account  where she compiled a good part of this experience.h-a-n-h
