There are things that seem impossible, but are possible. A couple who embraced one of twins who had been pronounced ᴅᴇᴀᴅ, sᴛᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ and had just moments to live. The two hours later, the child comes back to life, a story of a miracle of love.

The couple, Kate and David Ogg from Queensland in Australia, had been trying to get pregnant for some time and were overjoyed when they found out Kate was expecting twins. Although the pregnancy started out well, after six months Kate was rushed to the delivery room. Jamie was born first on March 25, 2010 and his sister Emily followed two minutes later. Both babies were born in the ᴀᴍɴɪᴏᴛɪᴄ sᴀᴄ and while Emily started wailing when it was ᴛᴏʀɴ ᴏᴠᴇʀ Jamie didn’t make a sound. But the couple quickly realised something was wrong when about 20 ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ staff crowded around Jamie. The baby had sᴛᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ and his ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙᴇᴀᴛ was nearly ɢᴏɴᴇ. And after a ꜰʀᴀɴᴛɪᴄ 20 minutes they sᴛᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ trying to sᴀᴠᴇ him. The doctor sat on the end of Kate’s hospital bed and asked if they had a name picked out. The couple were told there was nothing more they could do to sᴀᴠᴇ Jamie.

Kate said she saw her baby gasp but the doctor told her it was no use so the despairing mum took the boy in her arms and asked everyone to leave. The baby’s body was cold so she tried to keep him as warm as possible. Kate told David to take his shirt off and climb into the bed. Although she knew it was probably pointless she had to do everything she could to try and sᴀᴠᴇ her tiny son. The desperate couple enveloped their tiny baby with their body warmth as they cradled him in the hospital bed. Kate said: “We were trying to entice him to stay. We explained his name and that he had a twin that he had to look out for and how hard we tried to have him. He suddenly ɢᴀsᴘᴇᴅ… then he opened his eyes. He was breathing and grabbing Dave’s finger. If we had let the doctor walk out of the room with him, Jamie would have been ᴅᴇᴀᴅ.”

In desperation, and thinking it would be the last time they would be able to hold their son, the couple hugged him close. But incredibly their body warmth seemed to ʀᴇᴠɪᴠᴇ him and the little boy started moving and his breathing grew stronger. Hospital staff rushed to help the newborn and managed to bring him back to life. Jamie and Emily are now about to turn five years old and their parents have only recently told them of the miraculous story. David said:” Emily burst into tears, she was really upset and she kept hugging Jamie. They love to talk about when they were babies. They have a little brother Charlie who loves telling anyone who listens. He’ll say: ‘When I was born I was fat and the twins were skinny. Jamie was also ᴅᴇᴀᴅ but now he is ᴀʟɪᴠᴇ’.”

Remarkably, Jamie has not encountered one ᴍᴇᴅɪᴄᴀʟ problem in the five years since his birth. Kate said:” He is absolutely fine… the biggest concern they had was ᴄᴇʀᴇʙʀᴀʟ ᴘᴀʟsʏ because of the lack of ᴏxʏɢᴇɴ  but there’s been nothing. It’s absolutely astounding. This whole experience makes you cherish them more.”  The family feel extremely lucky all of their children are happy and healthy.
