After the mother elephant gives birth, the herd of elephants encircles the little one to protect it and to celebrate (VIDEO) RITA

Most people don’t get to see wild elephants on a daily basis, let alone see a wild elephant give birth!

In 2017, a group of tourists captured the moment a pregnant elephant was giving birth at 𝘾𝙝𝙤𝙗𝙚 National Park in 𝙎𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙣 𝘼𝙛𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙖.

They witnessed the massive elephants surrounded a small watering hole. Then, the pregnant elephant walked away from the remaining pack.

It seemed that she was in pain and only seconds later, the tourists realized she was giving birth.

One tourist immediately hit the record on camera to capture the incredible moment. The video shows the baby elephant makes its entrance into the world. After the mother was fully birthed, the spectators can be heard cheering in the background of the video.

The new mother then tried to get her baby to his feet, helping him breathe. She began trumpeting as she started to roll him over to his side. The entire elephant herd then rushed towards the newborn calf to protect him from possible predators. It appeared as though they were also celebrating as they joined the mother in trumpeting.

Elephants are famously protective of other members of their herds, especially newborns, so this beautiful spectacle makes complete sense. Each of the “bodyguards” weighs anywhere between two and a half and seven tons, so any hyenas or other ᴘʀᴇᴅᴀᴛᴏʀs who might’ve been lurking nearby stood little chance of ɴᴀʙʙɪɴɢ the baby. The herd’s on the trumpet for 2 reasons. First, they are celebrating their newest member and showing the world how happy they are. Second, they’re sending out a 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 to anyone nearby that they shouldn’t come any closer. They seemed to be sensing the tourists’ presence. We couldn’t blame them for being a bit ᴡᴏʀʀɪᴇᴅ about them.

Seeing the elephants, who have been known to be highly intelligent animals, celebrate such a beautiful moment was very heartwarming. A new family member is always memorable, and meeting a baby for the first time is always a beautiful moment.
