Kyle Smith y su perro de trabajo militar, Bodza, comenzaron una amistad duradera en 2012, mientras ambos estaban desplegados en Kirguistán. Kyle, miembro de la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos, colaboró estrechamente con Bodza. Kyle no dudó en adoptar a su amigo y brindarle una jubilación magnífica cuando finalmente se jubiló.
Si bien la pareja compartió muchos años memorables, Bodza desarrolló una condición degenerativa que destruyó su médula espinal cuando tenía 11 años.
Cuando llegó el momento de despedirse de su fiel y adorada mascota, Kyle se quedó asombrado al encontrarse con sus superiores, quienes habían llegado inesperadamente a la oficina del veterinario portando una bandera estadounidense. Kyle hizo un gesto emotivo al colocar la bandera sobre el ex perro militar.
“Que estos tipos hagan esto por un perro que nunca han conocido…”, reflexionó más tarde. Ese día tuvo una despedida encantadora”.
“Lo que más me gustaba de él era que no le importaba lo que estuvieras haciendo, solo quería estar ahí haciéndolo contigo”, dijo Kyle a Inside Edition. “Todos tenemos ese perro que es muy especial para nosotros”.
“Me casé con este perro, me divorcié de este perro”, explicó Kyle. Estoy esperando un hijo y lo más molesto es que desearía que fuera más joven para que mi hijo pudiera jugar con él. Era el perro más dulce del planeta”.
