Frequently, we come across heart-wrenching videos and pictures of animal rescues on TV and social media. As we admire the compassionate individuals who take in and nurture these animals, it becomes evident that only a few of us are willing to undertake such acts of kindness ourselves.

In the Philippines, there was a young boy who would frequently vanish from his home for a specific duration every day. Intrigued by his son’s mysterious disappearances, the father made up his mind to trail him. The discovery the father made evoked a mix of happiness and sadness within him as he witnessed the impressive abilities of his son, but also encountered a disheartening situation.

Ken Amante, a 9-year-old boy hailing from a secluded city in the Philippines, would embark on a daily journey away from his family abode. Disguised as a leisurely walk, he deliberately concealed the precise destination from his father. With an unwavering faith placed upon him, his father entrusted him without hesitation.

Ken’s father decided to follow his son out of curiosity

One day, Ken’s father became intrigued by curiosity and desired to uncover the routine whereabouts of his son. In an attempt to finally satisfy his curiosity, he discreetly trailed behind his son during his supposed walks, concealing his true intentions, all in pursuit of discovering what his son was truly engaging in.

Something completely unexpected caught his eye. He soon discovered that his child embarked on a daily mission. By discreetly following Ken, he unveiled the truth: his son was regularly feeding the stray dogs in the neighborhood. Rather than ignoring the struggles of these animals, Ken had taken it upon himself to do everything in his capability to assist them.

Ken found himself surrounded by a pack of emaciated and frail strays, their appearances reflecting their poor health. These animals, who had spent their lives dreading human contact, had developed an extraordinary level of trust in Ken. Reflecting on the past, he remembered how, during his initial attempt to feed them, he had to position himself 50 meters away and observe from afar, as the dogs refused to approach the food in his presence.

The animals now have such immense trust in him that he can freely pet them. Ken’s father, astounded by his son’s remarkable compassion, captured this act in photographs. After taking a few pictures, he placed his camera aside and joined his son in lending a helping hand.

During their time with the stray dogs, they made the decision to give three of the familiar faces names: “Brownie”, “Blackie”, and “White”. It became evident that Blackie was the mother of the other two and seemed particularly weak. Nevertheless, she remained devoted to her puppies.

They built a shelter and started a volunteer organisation to help these animals

Ken’s unwavering resolve led him to extend a helping hand to these overlooked animals, ignored by everyone else. Together, father and son established a volunteer organization with the sole purpose of aiding homeless animals in the vicinity. On March 31st, 2014, they embarked on their venture, aptly named the “Happy Animals Club,” which has since blossomed into a triumphant endeavor.

A dedicated space was chosen by them to provide ongoing assistance to animals. Ken’s father made the choice to lease a parcel of land close to their residence. He successfully acquired the entire plot, offering a warm welcome to various animals requiring help.
