The Brazilian Army has signed an intent to procure 420 Iveco LMV-BR “Guaicurus” 4×4 Light Multirole Vehicles as part of force-bolstering measures. The Iveco LMV (Light Multirole Vehicle) is a 4×4 tactical vehicle developed by Iveco, and in service with several countries. After its adoption by the Italian Army as the Veicolo-Tattico-Leggero-Multiruolo (VTLM) Lince (“Light tactical multirole vehicle Lynx”), Iveco LMV-BR is the Brazilian version of the Iveco 4×4 Light Multirole Vehicle. Brazilian Army operates 48 LMV Lince and LMV-BR. Ordered 1,464 in 2016. It has been adopted by the armies of Albania, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Norway, Russia and Spain.

The Brazilian Army has selected Iveco Defence Vehicle’s LMV armoured vehicle as the winner of its Viatura Blindada Multitarefa – Leve de Rodas (VBMT-LR) programme, the service’s Projects Procurement Office (EPEx). The LMV submitted by Iveco Latin America was selected over the Avibras Tupi, a local version of Renault Trucks Defense Sherpa Light Scout vehicle. The Brazilian Army has announced that the first batch of LMV-BR armoured vehicles has entered service with the 15th Mechanised Infantry Brigade. At least part of the fleet fitted with locally developed REMAX remote weapon stations.

The LMV, first produced in 2006, has been the subject of continuous development and innovation. The latest evolution of the LMV, the LMV2, offers better performance with increased payload, improved reliability and enhanced crew comfort. The new version has a G.V.W. of 8.1t and is powered by the FPT F1C engine coupled to a brand new ZF automatic 8-speed transmission. The upgraded driveline has three differential locks, can handle more power and has optional ADM (Automatic Drivetrain Management) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program), enhancing off-road handling and driving safety.

The LMV2 is designed to accommodate extensive mission systems such as BMS, intercom, ECM (Electronic Counter Measures) and radio thanks also to its outstanding Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) profile that meets the exceptionally demanding DEF-STAN and MIL-STD requirements. Sub-system integration has also been greatly eased by adopting a new digitised electronic architecture and improved power supply. The shape and dimensions of the LMV2 give the vehicle a reduced cross-spectrum signature (thermal, acoustic, visual and radar) and significant transportability and strategic mobility by land, air (two LMV2 fitting onto a C130J) and helicopter.
