When a Detroit man came home one day and saw a dog chained in a nearby backyard, he began urgently calling for help. Fortunately, Rebel Dogs Detroit answered the call and sent a volunteer, Tiffany Perkins, to investigate. When she first arrived, she had no idea what to expect, but as soon as she saw Beaker, her heart melted.

“Beaker was scared and hid behind the garage,” Perkins explained to The Dodo. “When I started yelling at him, he looked to the side. His tail started wagging as I approached. Then he pushed his weight towards us as if he was relieved that we were patting him. He moved like a muppet because he was so excited that that’s why they called him Beaker!

Obviously, Beaker was anxious after being tied up and abandoned, but as soon as he understood that Perkins was there to rescue him, he immediately relaxed and was very happy to meet his new best friend.h-a-n-h

“When they released the chain from the garage, he sank to the floor to get his belly rubbed, licked and playfully messed around,” Perkins added.h-a-n-h

Unfortunately, Beaker’s chain got caught around his neck, so Perkins rushed him to the vet to get him checked out. While they waited for Beaker’s operation to remove the chain, Perkins took advantage of the extra time to lavish Beaker with affection he had never known, and the beautiful dog was delighted.

“We spent a lot of bonding time in the car for over 5 hours waiting for his procedure,” Perkins recalled. “After a while, he was asleep with his head on my lap.”h-a-n-h

Even after everything Beaker had been through, all he wanted was to be loved, and his dream had finally been fulfilled.

Beaker is now recovering from surgery in his foster home and is the happiest dog I have ever met. It doesn’t seem to matter what happened to Beaker in the past. What counts is where he is today and all his new friends who care about him and want him to be happy and safe.h-a-n-h

“In his foster home, he is learning to be an indoor dog with unconditional affection,” Perkins added.

Beaker is looking for his forever home and would like to be with another happy and enthusiastic dog who can continue to teach him the ropes and become his best home. Beaker knew he was finally safe the moment he saw his rescuers and can’t wait to find the forever home he deserves.h-a-n-h
